I’ve been an avid gardener for most of my life. By the time March hits, I’m white knuckling my garden tools and itching to get my hands in the soil. In my neck of the woods planting season is in May and, for me, that’s too long of a wait.

Our house is all set up for the fall season and that includes Halloween decorations and lights. On a recent trip to Walmart, I spotted a fleece Halloween hoodie for dogs. The picture is a clear indication that I did not leave the store without this hoodie. I was jumping for joy at the cuteness of it all, but Coco wasn’t too thrilled with his new festive attire. I’m sure it’s the first article of clothing that he’s ever worn.
Remember when the Furby came out the first time? Well, these fun little toys are back and they are making quite the commotion. In fact, the Furby has made the top toy list at Walmart. Why the buzz? The new Furby by Hasbro has a mind of it’s own. It’ develops it’s personality based on how you play with it. It’s been about 5 or 6 years since the Nintendo Wii first made it’s debut on the store shelves. It was a hot ticket item and prices ranged from $250-$300 with 1 game included. One of my most favorite pictures of all time is one that I have of my brother and I on a camping trip. I was about 4 or 5 and we were laying back on a full length fold out lawn chair. We were laughing about something. Looking at that picture brings back memories of our family camping trips. We camped out a lot. It was always by a lake and we did a lot of swimming, fishing and hiking through the woods. We’d dine on meals made in cast iron pans and dessert always involved sticks and a bag of marshmallows.
I installed an air conditioner in one of my offices today. It’s only May. I’ve never had to use air conditioning this early in the year. This is something I typically do towards the end of June. However, today, the outside thermometer reached 102. My office is a small sun room with more windows than walls. It was probably about 10-15 degrees hotter in here than outside. By mid afternoon I was dizzy and had sweat dripping down my back. It was time. The air conditioner went in. Today was a harsh reminder that we’re probably in for an extensive 3-H summer. Hazy. Hot. Humid.
Father’s Day is June 17th. The big question replays in our heads over and over…”What are we going to get dad?” Back when I was a kid, thirty years ago, it was easy. Two words. English Leather. Do they even make that any more? Times have changed and, if you ask most men what they want for Father’s Day, English Leather, ties or socks is not included in their answer. It’s not that they want something extravagant and pricey. Dads just want something unique, useful and a gift with a little thought put into it.
