Who’s That Girl?

Graduation Gifts Made Easy
I have no shame in admitting that it’s been 20 years since I walked to the platform to grab a hold of my high school diploma. After weeks of waiting for that one moment, there I was. Diploma in hand. It marked a rite of passage in my life. The anticipation and excitement of graduation day is something that will never fizzle out. However, times have changed quite a bit in certain areas surrounding graduation. At the top of the list would be gift giving. Back then (starting to feel old now), things were a lot less complicated. We didn’t have high tech gadgets, laptops, fancy phones and eBooks. Electronics wasn’t even a gift choice that most people thought about unless it was a fancy scientific calculator.

National Teacher Appreciation Week
- A teacher’s purpose is not to create students in his own image, but to develop students who can create their own image. ~Author Unknown
Think back to when you were in school. There is at least one teacher that stood out and has had an impact on your life. Mine was Mrs. W. Back then, it wasn’t cool to focus efforts on anything related to art. Whether it was writing or watercolors, there wasn’t much to stimulate the creative minds that roamed the halls. Mrs. W. was one of the rare few who embraced those souls and provided an environment to encourage us young artists. Her classroom was my playground. Eventually, thanks to her encouragement and persistence, the world became my playground. Over three decades later I’m still writing, photographing the world as I see it and, once in a while, I flirt with a good brush and tube of paint.

It’s happened to all of us. Life gets a little crazy, our list of things to do gets longer, and by the end of the week the single Post-It note with scribbled reminders has multiplied itself. There are now three. Six. Ten. Somewhere amongst the stack is a colored square adorned with big bold letters reminding you to pick up a thoughtful Mother’s Day gift. You find it two weeks after you wrote it. Mother’s Day is now less than a week away. What do you do? Panic might be your first choice, but it’s not necessary. You can wipe away that panic-induced sweat from your upper lip. It’s not too late. Relax. Breathe in. Exhale. zuuzs is here.
