A Survival Guide To Holiday Gift Giving

Gift giving is a torrent of mixed emotions: the act of giving – it’s rewarding and brings joy to those you love (= awesome), the hunt is somewhat stressful, and the havoc wreaked on your bank account – less than ideal.  For a less stressful Holiday Shopping experience, stay organized, stay focused, and save!

Stay Organized

Even if you’re not a list-maker, now might be the time to start.  Nobody, and I mean nobody, wants to run back to the ever-crowded shopping mall three times in the weeks leading up to the Holidays having forgotten a present for X, Y, or Z.  Sit down and really map out who you’d like to get something for, cross off names as you find that perfect something and move on to the next.

Stay Focused

Stores this time of year are extra sparkly.  The sales are extra enticing.  And your desire to buy is in full force.  Don’t get distracted by things you don’t need, but do make concessions for the very best deals (after Christmas regrets stink.)

Save

Take your list of gift recipients and try to break those names down into categories – maybe something like “big gift,” “medium gift”, “small gift.”  If you really want to save, try online shopping, but better start early to be sure the gifts roll in well before the big party, etc.
